Teaching Philosophy and Profile

1. Educational Idea

It is our central goal that students develop the ability and willingness to act in a theory-based reflexive, open-minded and responsible way in their later professional field of activity. Our aim is for students to not only acquire knowledge and skills, but in particular to develop a (self-)critical-experimental attitude and the willingness to repeatedly reflect on their own professional practice.

2. Conceptual design and methodical design of teaching and learning arrangements for higher education didactics

Against the background of our educational idea, there are three points of reference from a conceptual point of view, which we pursue in parallel in each course:

  •  Reflexive Strand

It is necessary to create courses in which students are encouraged to deal with their subjective theories and experiences in a reflexive and critical-constructive way.

  • Pragmatic Strand

The starting point for students' learning processes should be problems or areas of innovation in (pedagogical) practice. Consequently, it is a matter of challenging the subjective persuasive knowledge of students about the confrontation with (pedagogically) substantive situations, sensitising them to their limitations and opening them up to other, theory-based approaches.

  • Systematic Strand

Our aim is for students to relate their own subjective theories to relevant scientific theories and to critically question, change, expand and, if necessary, revise their own subjective theories, beliefs and values.

From the point of view of university didactics, the concept of research-based learning as well as case- and project-oriented courses are particularly suitable for us.
