Tasks in Business Academic Teaching

The role of self-directed learning as well as working in small groups is of particular importance in the mass study programme Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Cologne. Both necessities can be taken into account through the use of learning tasks. However, experience has shown that many lecturers have only limited competencies for the meaningful construction and implementation of these tasks. The project takes up this desideratum and aims to achieve an optimisation of learning tasks as well as an extension of the competence of business administration lecturers in the context of task construction. To this end, theory-led learning tasks are analysed in five courses of the Bachelor of Business Administration. In addition, the students of these courses are interviewed regarding their assessment and all lecturers regarding their needs. On this basis, the next step will be to further develop these learning tasks and to create a manual for the substantive construction of learning tasks in business administration. In a final step, the lecturers and students involved will be questioned again about the changes in order to further optimise the learning tasks and finalise the manual.

The lecturers' success in learning how to model tasks and the manual offer opportunities for sustainable and multiplying follow-up actions.
